Arrested Development
In what has become a routine, I was 'arrested' by traffic police. As is the norm, the cop asked that we drive to the police station where I can be issued a ticket after I refused to part with a bribe.
The last time I was in similar position, I ended up spending a few hours in jail.
Once bitten, twice shy. Not wanting a repeat, I told the cop to impound the car and keep my driver's licence as I was not going to accompany him to the police station.
I was let go with a stern warning and a chuckle.

Ssem-I think you must have that mungiki look.
Or a very rich dude :-)
uih? bribe?
Are you in Kenya? You had promised to be here for the inauguration!
LOL... happened to me... I refused to bribe & ended up wasting 2 days (incl court) plus KShs 5,000
BUT I understand a cop cannot force you to drive him/her to the cop station. They can follow you there using their own transportation!
I need to get me a copy of the Traffic Laws of Kenya!
If I may say so myself, I have been in an exact similar situation, and no, I bear no semblance to Mungiki (do they have female mungikis?). Bewildered beyond shock at the prospect of being handcuffed and thrown in, the weakest thing about me saved the day. I burst into tears! I think the Kenyan cops have not witnessed such the scene of a crying woman, because i was let free, No charge. It is the one story I have never been able to effectively put down in writing.
Kenya laws are now online... Updated.
I once defended myself in a trafic case and won. No lawyer, just knowledge of where the cop screwed up.
Know your laws... Cant remember the site. Google it.
Maina, it must be my imaginary dreadlocks
Willie, Bribe I will not
Kim, I promised but...
CT, I've been in traffic court once. Wasted the whole day.
Mwari, lol.
Anon, you are either very brave or very principled. Kudos to you.
