What Is Love?

"Love is NOT a feeling, but a choice"
- A church minister, during a wedding that I recently attended.

Of all the definitions of love, including 1 Corinthians 13, nothing comes close to describing love than the above quote. That is not to say that love is not an emotion.

Against the background of what is happening back home, my message to all Kenyans is that we have to consciously choose to love our fellow compatriots, especially those who are different from us.

John, a disciple of Christ, couldn't have said it better in 1 John 4:20 when he says - If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

In the words of Christ, love your neighbor as yourself. For anyone who professes to be a Christian, let us do as Jesus as commanded.

Do you see this impasse coming to a scratching halt anytime soon? I would put my money on it that both sides will let it drag on till we are on the verge of anarchy.

"ndovu wakipigana, nyasi huumia"..the power struggles will definately slap the mwanainchi hardest. We can kiss goodbye the recently made gains and tourism, FDI and the NSE are all going to the tubes.

Love has been displaced by anger, venegance, intolerance and indifference which at this pace will engulf us all!

Fedha,
From the little news that is trickling in, we are in for a long political impasse. With agriculture and tourism being our mainstay, it will take a while before we fully recover from the events of this past week.

Did you invest in the NSE?

Ssem: I've been investing in the NSE since '05 and have had a great run esp in the financial sector, accumlating substantial shares in NIC, KCB and STANBIC. (at our level hefty holdings are only a couple thousand to tens of thousands)

Excluding Kenya Airways and Jubilee which were recent-ill timed buys-my long term holdings have had a total return of 162% to date. Needless to day, i feel weak in the legs right now!

Had you participated ama horizons hadn't stretched beyond the NYSE, NASDAQ...?

Fedha, Looks like you are well cushioned.

Everything will depend on how quickly Raila and Kibaki settle their scores.

From what I'm reading, the glossy reports from Nairobi don't reflect what is happening to the rest of the country. There are some good articles in today's Nation Business section though I'm yet to read them.
